I’ve always wanted to be a Bare Escentuals/bareMinerals lover. I worshipped Leslie Blodgett after hearing a couple of her moving speeches at CEW events (check out the charismatic CEO yourself on OWN’s “Commander in Heels,” Monday, September 3rd at 10pm). They started this whole mineral makeup revolution and some of my friends with the most perfect skin still swear by their loose powder mineral foundation.
But the original shimmer version scared me. As a formerly oily-skinned teenager (do all young Asians worry about greasy faces?), I have a psychological allergy to anything shiny near my T-zone. And let’s face it—I need foundation around my nose the most (to cover up redness from real allergies making me blow my nose). But even the matte version of the cult favorite Bare Escentuals foundation didn’t sway me (although I did enjoy their “Welcome Matte” guerilla marketing campaign). I wanted to love it but just couldn’t fall for the loose powder formula—too messy and not practical for my frequent travel lifestyle.
But this September, Bare Escentuals is finally launching a solid mineral makeup: bareMinerals READY SPF 20 Foundation. And it’s matte! Silky and velvety, this powder somehow manages to hydrate while mattifying (perfect because although I don’t want to look like a greaseball, I also don’t want my aging skin to look parched). I love to wear it over my beloved Shiseido sunscreen, which needs a little something something so I don’t look too washed out.
