Mani Monday: Nuance Salma Hayek Nail Lacquer Road Test

Nuance Salma Hayek Nail Lacquer in Tiger Lily

Is it just me or have some nail polish companies been watering down their formulas lately? I’ve just noticed that when I’ve restocked some of my favorite shades, it’s taking me more coats to reach the same level of opacity. And we all know that extra coats are manicure kryptonite, adding up to a thick manicure and putting you at risk for more smudges and chips, faster. Which is why I’m so impressed with Salma Hayek’s Nuance Nail Lacquer line (launching today on’m testing out the Rococo Red shade, a bloody (in a good way) rose red that I can imagine Salma sporting herself. What’s my verdict? Nuance Nail Lacquer is a $5.99 drugstore polish that has as much rich pigment as much pricier professional lines. Two coats of this borage seed oil-infused polish is all you need for a super shiny mani/pedi. I know, I know, what does Salma Hayek know about nail polish? Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry (with their adorable experiments in nail art) seem like better manicure ambassadors, right? But the bottom line is that Salma Hayek is a beauty product connoisseur—and at a gorgeous 46 years of age, she obviously knows a thing or two about what works.

So instead of just picking a few favorite colors and slapping her name on the label, Salma’s using her cosmetologist grandmother’s recipes to concoct skin care, hair products, makeup, and now nail polish, that every woman can afford. My favorite Nuance Salma Hayek product is the Jojoba Dual Phase Body Oil. This coconut and jojoba oil blend soaks into skin instantaneously. I thought other formulas penetrated quickly, but this spray disappears (with no trace of greasiness) as soon as you rub it across your skin. All you’re left with is soft, moisturized skin and a beautiful sheen.

P.S. The Nuance Salma Hayek line is on sale at right now for 25% off!
