Although I’ve been a beauty editor for decades (my young face is a testament to all the anti-aging products I’ve tried), I still get excited about new makeup colors. That said, I can’t remember the last time I bought makeup (for myself) and am pretty lazy about changing up my usual repertoire of BB Cream, blush, and mascara. But when I was at an event the other day and realized I was wearing matte burgundy lipstick (not very appropriate for sunny L.A. weather), I knew it was time for some makeup overhaul. So I headed to the slick Nars flagship store on Melrose in Los Angeles and had a summer makeup shopping spree. Here’s what I splurged on:
Nars The Multiple in G-Spot: I used to use The Multiple in Malibu religiously, but sometimes felt like the color was too dark—making my skin look more bruised than flushed. Hopefully this creamy rose (no shimmer for me!) with the cheeky name will be a better fit.
Nars Duo Eye Shadow in Tokyo: I was really skeptical when Nars makeup artist Phuong (who helped me pick all my new summery shades) showed me this lavender-gray palette, but it’s surprisingly neutral and exceptionally pretty on my lids. More girly than my usual taupey browns, but in a good way.
Nars Larger Than Life Lip Gloss in Paris Follies: A definite improvement from that deep burgundy lipstick. A fun flamingo pink that’s a touch softer than my usual neon pink for summer.
Nars Pierre Hardy Nail Polish in Vertebra: I’m a sucker for sleek packaging and already have some ideas on how to give the white box a second life as a storage case. And these two shades just make me happy when I look at them.
Nars Water Bottle: The chicest bottle of water I’ve ever laid eyes on. And FREE!
