As a successful, 30-something woman, I find the one thing that’s most difficult in my life to figure out (and get right) is the same Achilles’ heel shared by most of my successful, 30-something female friends: love. Why is it so hard to find the right person and even harder to have a lasting, drama-free relationship? Sure, I have a wonderful boyfriend whom I love and adore, but because I care about him so much, I feel like I need to do my due diligence and work on the relationship. And my favorite self-help homework? Reading relationship advice books.
The book that I’m currently obsessed withand recommending to every single woman I’ve had brunch/lunch/dinner/drinks with is Tracy McMillan’s “Why You’re Not Married…Yet.” I checked it out on my Kindle from the LAPL a month ago and it changed my life—so of course I had to share it with all of you too. Every person I’ve talked to about this book has bought it for their Kindle (or iPhone/iPad free Kindle app) and called me up to say how amazing it is. A TV writer by trade, Tracy McMillan reveals her relationship advice through anecdotes and cautionary tales—very effective because I can see parts of myself and my dear friends in each of Tracy’s characters.
So if you’re stuck in a relationship rut, check out Tracy’s Huffington Post article listing why you’re not married, or just download her book! I recommend reading it on your Kindle because you don’t really want to get caught with the actual paper copy in public, especially by your boyfriend or soon-to-be-boyfriend: Amazon.com: Why You’re Not Married . . . Yet: The Straight Talk You Need to Get the Relationship You Deserve (9780345532923): Tracy McMillan: Books.
