My VMAs Manicure with Essie’s New Fall Colors

Just had to share my #essieredcarpet manicure by @JulieKnailsNYC (creative director at The Paintbox in New York City). She used two of the new shades from Essie’s Fall 2014 color collection: Take It Outside (gray) and Dress To Kilt (burgundy). Side note: Cover Girl invited me to attend the MTV VMA awards with them (their spokesperson Katy Perry was nominated for Best Female Video–and won!!) last night so this was my VMA manicure. Needless to say, this weekend was a dream!

Mani Monday: Lilac Ciaté Shells

Giving the new Ciaté DIY Shell Manicure Kit a whirl this week and love how quickly this polish dries! I’m wearing the Mermaid You Look, which consists of a lilac nail polish with a gray undertone that Ciaté calls Pillow Light and silvery purple crushed shells (which I’m using on my accent nails). Now I know why Ciaté is so popular. It’s Totally foolproof DIY nail art! And this kit is perfect for spring to summer. After all, it is 90 degrees in L.A. this week. Sunny!

Mani Monday: Damask Nails

Straight from the New York Fashion Week runways (specifically the Veronica Beard show), my new fall manicure is not Calgel (I’m giving my nails a break from the gel because they were peeling and thinning). According to the artist behind my mani masterpiece, Essie manicurist Michelle (who also painted the models’ nails backstage at Veronica Beard), this is the easiest nail art to DIY: Start with two coats of colored polish (I’m wearing Essie in Vested Interest, a new fall shade), then apply a layer of matte top coat over each nail. To create a damask-like design just like mine, paint squiggles and dots with a shiny top coat. I’m going to try this myself next time with shiny top coat stripes–then it’ll really look just like damask!
