I had lunch with THE celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann today in Westwood, who was in town celebrating the 15th anniversary of her brand (and to work the Emmy’s, making sure her star clients’ hands look picture perfect before they step out onto the red carpet). Seeing Deborah and talking polish shades reminded me of the Marie Claire article I recently interviewed her for, about how to look polished without wearing any nail polish (a true nude manicure). Yes, Lana del Rey, now that it’s mid-August, I’m having some Summertime Sadness (mostly dreading the shorter days and mega-allergies of fall). But summer’s not over yet so I decided that I wanted a strawberry manicure this week. After all, what fruit epitomizes summer more than strawberries (okay, maybe watermelon)? So it’s another Monday and I have another amazing Azusa manicure.

Nuance Salma Hayek Nail Lacquer in Tiger Lily
Is it just me or have some nail polish companies been watering down their formulas lately? I’ve just noticed that when I’ve restocked some of my favorite shades, it’s taking me more coats to reach the same level of opacity. And we all know that extra coats are manicure kryptonite, adding up to a thick manicure and putting you at risk for more smudges and chips, faster.
