The Truth About Lip Size

Screen Shot 2014-09-14 at 12.56.03 PMI was at Kate Somerville earlier this week when a nurse practitioner complimented me on my lips, then asked if they were real. Now this is Los Angeles—the land of make believe—so I guess her question was valid. When it comes to lips, I must admit that I’ve been pretty blessed. But it’s also true that I didn’t always feel this way. When I was younger, I was extremely self-conscious about their fullness, which I perceived as being ugly. As a teenager, I even asked a makeup artist how to minimize my lips by drawing them to look smaller. Now of course all of that seems ludicrous now, but just like skin, lips thin with age and I wonder if my satisfaction with my current lip size is because they’ve shrunk a little to become proportional to my face, or if I’ve just gotten used to them. Okay, that’s enough mouthing off from me. If you want to make your lips look more pillowy or prevent red lipstick from feathering, there’s a new sugar-derived injectable filler that has revolutionized lip jobs everywhere from Los Angeles to Miami.
